Bamboo packaging replaces plastic during Eid food handout in Indonesia

The Qurban committee at Masjid Al-Munawwarah mosque in Padang, Indonesia has replaced the plastic wrapping for their Eid food handout with a more sustainable bamboo alternative.
Footage from Sunday (August 2) shows meat packaged in bamboo baskets being delivered to the homes of local residents.
Deputy Chairperson of Masjid Al-Munawarah, Amoura Lubis, said: "The replacement of plastic containers is due to the dangers of plastic for human health, the environment and because plastic cannot be destroyed for hundreds of years."
Lubis added: "Every Eid al-Adha, there is lots of plastic garbage because in Indonesia there is a habit of using plastic. We are trying to change the habit".
The Qurban committee prepared 800 bamboo baskets, woven by craftsmen in Padang City, for the meat of 20 cows and three goats.
