A Dalit couple in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna district drank pesticide in a suicide attempt on Tuesday after being forced to watch as their crops were bulldozed by revenue department officials. In disturbing visuals, the husband and wife were also assaulted badly by police officers as they dragged them into an ambulance. Their children are witness to the assault and try to cling to their parents but are roughly pushed away by the cops. The couple - Ram Kumar Ahirwar and Savitri Devi are now in a government-run hospital and in stable condition. The video has led to an outrage on the social media. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to twitter to condemn the horrific act. Rahul Gandhi wrote and I quote, Our fight is against this mentality and injustice. Guna is the stronghold of Jyotiraditya Scindia whose switched to the BJP in March led to the Congress collapsing in the state. Reacting to the video, Jyotiraditya Scindia tweeted out that the incident was being investigated. He wrote The Guna SP and Collector have been removed, and inquiry has been sought into the incident. I am confident that action will be taken against all those who are responsible for this heinous act.
