For Haviah Mighty’s contribution to digital FORT, the Toronto artist digs deeper into the meaning behind her song and video for "Thirteen," which appears on her latest album, 13th Floor. "[Learning about] the thirteenth amendment was the beacon," she says. "As a young Black woman there’s a personal bias that people expect me to have, speaking about concepts and themes like this. But writing from the perspective of the thirteenth amendment to me was taking my personal bias out of it… and therefore making it a factual song that can’t be refuted."
