Research has shown more children are experiencing mental health difficulties during the pandemic societal lockdown.
According to HuffPost, such difficulties include feeling unhappy, being clingy, and experiencing physical symptoms associated with worry.
Poppy O’Neill has written widely on mental wellbeing. Her new book, ‘101 Tips to Help Your Anxious Child,’ is about to come out.
She suggests parents discuss anxiety openly, and try to get their child to articulate what they’re feeling–and where it shows up in their body.
Also, be open to communicating differently. Have the child draw a picture, write a letter, or demonstrate their feelings with toys or emojis.
Most importantly, parents should make their home a place of positivity and remind their children that they can trust themselves and cope.
