Pemberton flies home
Convicted US Marine soldier Joseph Scott Pemberton left the country on Sunday after being granted absolute pardon by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Pemberton flew home at around 9 a.m. on board a military aircraft.
The US embassy noted that the Department of Justice authorized his release on Sept. 1. He was granted pardon on Sept. 7.
Pemberton, a member of the United States Marine, was convicted of killing transgender woman Jennifer Laude in 2014 in Olongapo City.
