Small groups gathered in Mong Kok to mark one year since one of the most controversial incidents of the 2019 Hong Kong protests. On August 31st, 2019, police officers in riot gear chasing anti-government protesters stormed train carriages in the nearby Prince Edward MTR station, where they beat people with batons and hit them with pepper spray. On the anniversary, police were out in force to prevent any large gatherings of demonstrators who remain angry about the incident.
