Widespread use of Covid-19 vaccine not expected until mid-2021

People most at risk should be given priority access to the COVID-19 vaccine, the chief of the World Health Organisation (WHO) said Friday.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO director-general, said that the WHO will not give endorsement until the Covid-19 vaccine is proven to be safe.
He added that vaccinating essential workers will take priority in the initial stages when supply will be limited.
The remarks come after WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan announced that the vaccine would not be expected until the second half of 2021.
